Camp David Accords
January 26, 1978: Camp David Accords
The Camp David Accords were signed by Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Bagin. The mediator from both sides was US President. Jimmy Carter. In this agreement, Israel is willing to return the Sinai Desert to Egypt, while Egypt is officially willing to recognize the state of Israel.
The signing of Camp David by Egypt made Arab and Muslim countries furious. Arab unity against Israel was broken. Egypt was then exiled from the Islamic world. Many Arab and Muslim countries severed their diplomatic relations with Egypt.
