Yuri Gagarin was a 27-year-old Russian astronaut. He made history by becoming the first human to travel into space.

Gagarin used the Vostok One space shuttle. In 89 minutes, it successfully left Earth and traveled around the planet. 

Before piloting the shuttle. Gagarin was a fighter pilot. On March 27, 1968. He died in a plane crash near Moscow.
